Mozart arrived in Vienna in 1781, when Joseph II had been the sole ruler of the Habsburg Monarchy since 1780. He stood for enlightened absolutism and implemented many reforms, such as the abolition of serfdom on November 1st, 1781. For Mozart, the efforts in art policy were particularly important. Mozart received commissions from the emperor. He also approved the premiere of ‘Le Nozze di Figaro’. In this tour, we want to show the influence of the Enlightenment on Mozart's music and how the emperor promoted Mozart through this.
